Nationals Second Half

As the Washington Nationals start the second half of their regular season they hope to keep that same type of winning they did in the first half with Michael Morse as the power first base guy in the "clean up spot", Danny Esponisa as the rookie second baseman that will continue to learn but still will produce for his team. With Ryan Zimmerman off of the DL the Nationals will also tend to lean on him more for clutch spots throughout the rest of the season if its the regular season or the post season. Fan were very disappointed in Jayson Werth's peformence in the first half, thinking he isn't worth is big deal contract, fans and himself know that their is room for improvement. The Nationals will hope to continue to produce with their starters Livan Hernandez, Jordan Zimmerman, John Lannan, Tom Gorzelanny, and Jason Marquis. The bullpen was lights out the first half I am positive they will want to continue that and also improve at the same time including Tyler Clippard, Todd Coffey, Drew Storen, and Henry Rodriguez. With Ivan Rodriguez on the DL Jesus Flores has been called back up and Wilson Ramos will be in control. Once Pudge is called back up the Nationals will decide what would be the proper place to put Flores at. The catcher rotation that Davey Johnson has placed is Wilson Ramos 2 days, and Rodriguez 1. The Nationals top prospects Bryce Harper, and Stephan Strasburg were not apart of the 2011 first half Washington Nationals, while Stephan Strasburg continues rehab in Florida, and Bryce Harper continues to improve his skills in (AA) Harrisburg the Nationals will also continue to become a better team step by step

Beltsville Contributes To One Of The Busiest Days In PGFD's History

Feb 19 - 06:00 hrs 8400 block of Potomac Avenue. The first major call that they was called out was for a house fire in College Park. The housed was being used by University Of Maryland, College Park students. The house was fully involved meaning every single part of the house was on fire. Units cleared around 08:30 hrs from this house fire.

Around 11:30 hrs Van Dussen Road in the area of I-95 a 30 foot mulch pile caught fire and due to high winds the fire spreaded more than 1 mile causing over 1 million dollars in damage. The reason the firefighters took so much time to put out the fire was because the fire kept moving towards their direction. This brush fire was 15 acres and was a 2 alarm hazmat box. This also caused I-95 to be shut down for about 4 hours.

At 13:56 hrs, Beltsville Truck 831 was dispatch to the Laurel Mall, 14700 Baltimore Avenue. For a fire in the Burlington Coat Factory this fire was also a 2 alarm box. Units cleared later.

Mutual Aid was needed from these following County's : St Mary's County MD, Calvert County MD, Charles County MD, Anne Arundel County MD, Montgomery County MD, Baltimore city MD, Arlington County VA, Alexandria City, Fairfax County VA, Washington DC, Carroll County MD, Caroline County MD, Queen Anne County MD, Andrews Air Force Base, BWI Airport, and Natural resources. All Prince George's County Firefighters were called back to duty due to multiple other house fires around the county. The last time all Firefighters were all called back to duty was Sept.11th.2001 and thats kinda obvious why. The Prince George's County Public Safety Communications handled 821 calls, an average day would be 350 calls a day, and thats just the Fire Department side of the Public Safety.

Saturday, February,19th,2011 : Around 12 noon units in the area of Laurel - Beltsville for brush fire. Units got on scene to find mulch on fire, soon the fire moved all over the place like a chicken with its head cut off. The Van Dussen Rd command requested a second alarm. From there the fire stretched atleast a mile. The Van Dussen Rd command stretch units along the fire to help extinguish the brush fire. There were more than 3 in the Laurel area. A 3 alarm working fire in 25's (Clinton) area with more than 5 houses destroyed, A fully involved house fire in 12's (College Park), the 2 alarm brush in 49's (Laurel) area, many other brush fires, and regular every day calls made it the one of the busiest days in Price George's County Fire Department's history

Just after 00:30 hrs Engine 831 was alerted to a building where a Automatic Fire Alarm was being received to communications. So communications dispatched it, about 4 minutes later Engine 831 arrived on scene and acknowledged that there was smoke coming from the building. Engine 831 wanted to start the box, sending units from around the 6th battalion to the location (Branchville, Laurel, Burtonsville area). This just reminds you a Fire Alarm can save lives, and save property.

On February, 5th, 2011 Engine 831 and Ambulance 831 was alerted to Cherry Hill Rd and Bournedale Rd for the Personal Injury accident also receiving one possible trapped. Once the units got on scene they came to find a car into a tree and one trapped. It took a hydraulic tool called the "Jaws of Life" to get to the patient. The patient was transported to a Trauma Center. Using the Jaws of Life is also considered a cut job.
